Our Mission
Kaleidoscope Parenting Program provides a platform where parents and educators can collaboratively learn the rules or codes of behavior that encourage self-regulation and instill self-discipline in our children before any punitive action is needed.
In an environment that promotes clear and calm communication and relationship building, parents become confident in using techniques that encourage positivity, understanding and finding solutions.
It is our mission to help parents understand their role as the authoritative adult in the relationship, fostering communication and understanding to develop positive relationships.
Positive Discipline Parenting Defined
I am sure you can agree that parenting isn’t easy. That there is a need for some potential guidance and accessible resources out there. We’re right there with you. That is why we have partnered in forming Kaleidoscope Parenting Program, a positive discipline approach.
When we hear the word “discipline” we kind of get a bad taste in our mouth. It may bring up bad memories of our childhood, our schooling or even work. But when we put “self” in front of that word it changes a bit, doesn’t it? We look at positive discipline this way: the branch of knowledge that encompasses the practice of training and educating people, youth and adults alike, on the rules or code of behavior to encourage self-regulation and instill self-discipline before any punitive action is needed.
- Positive discipline focuses on behaviors, not who the person is.
- It is not punitive; it teaches important social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both the adult and child.
- Positive Discipline is kind AND firm.
- It lets the child know they are being heard yet also lets them know that there is a hierarchy within the familial/educational structure.
- You are showing respect for yourself, the child and the situation at hand.
What We offer
Kaleidoscope Parenting Program
Introduction to Positive Discipline Parenting
- This FREE one hour overview is a great option to introduce the concept, classes and workshops to your organization, church or group. Experience the power of experiential exercises for yourselves.
Positive Discipline Parenting Class Series
- A six week class series designed to explore concepts, tools and engagement techniques. Each week covers topic introduction, discussion, experiential activities, and Parents Helping Parents Problem Solving Steps (PHP). Included is one workbook per couple/co-parent, plus additional tools for use at home. Each participant/couple will receive the option to participate in a 1:1 private session with one of the educators (see the About page for facilitator bio's and specialties). Each weekly class will run 90 minutes.
One Day Workshops
- Single Saturday (usually) session. 9:00am - 4:00pm. Lunch provided. Includes introduction, discussion and diving right in to experiential exercises and activities to become comfortable using these techniques at home. We end the day with Parents Helping Parents Problem Solving Steps (PHP). Take home materials provided.
Large/Small Group Presentations
- Single sessions, usually 90 minutes. Great for PTA or other parent groups. These sessions are more presentation/information focused than experiential. Overview of Positive Discipline Parenting Practices and/or specific topic focused. Some topics include Teens and the Internet, Understanding Parenting Styles, Behavior and Communication. We are open to creating a presentation based on your needs or current concerns. These sessions may include additional guest speakers.
Educator Training
- Two hour working sessions on positive discipline in the classroom.
